There is a sign writer working across the street from me. Hand lettering isn't something you see everyday; it's quite mesmerising watching the letters slowly appear.

Is it normal to go 2 months between posts or am I just rubbish at blogging?

| Everything But The Girl - Temperamental |

PSX and myself have been spending some time trying to expand our social circle and I find a quote from Douglas Coupland keeps popping into my mind.
"People lose the ability to make friends somewhere around the time they buy their first expensive piece of furniture."
One thing's for sure, at 45 I'm finding it harder to make new friends than when I was 25.

Oddly, Richard Serra is one of my favourite artists. Hmmmm......I may be attributing these generators with seeing powers that, deep down, I know they don't possess.

Publicity shy X* and myself are just back from Brussels. Most enjoyable.
Anyway....our Ibis hotel room had broken air conditioning. No big deal, we just opened a window. However X complained about it and our stay was free because the management couldn't fix it within 15 minutes. Brilliant!
Lesson learnt from the exercise: not that I'm a moaner, but it can pay to complain.
* I think I'll call him PSX from now on, it sounds more snappy.

And the award for Person Most Lacking In Self Awareness goes to the girl sitting behind me during the new Harry Potter film.
Why? Because she managed to talk non-stop for the whole 138 minutes; it was quite an achievement, well done her.
Top moments: "Isn't he cute?" - This was said quite a lot, usually with reference to Harry Potter. "Doesn't he have lovely blond hair?" - referring to Voldemort. "Who's that?" - referring to any extra. "What's happening now?" - mentioned with metronomic regularity.
I could have moved but the only seats available were right at the front about 10ft away from the screen, not brilliant. It would also have meant sitting away from my friends and feeling a bit of a fool.
And, yes, I could have said something but then I would have spent the rest of the film stealing myself for the moment she executed her revenge by texting her friends to tell them how much of a tosser I was. Making sure, of course, the glare from her mobile phone display was in my peripheral vision. I know this because I've seen it happen.
What did I think of the film? Don't ask me, I've no idea what it was about.

I've been holding on to some ephemera I collected whilst travelling in eastern Europe. Truth be told it's all been in an envelope for the last 20 something years waiting for something to happen to it. Most of it was chocolate wrappers from Hungary. I also had some old Olympic Airlines postcards, travel tickets etc. I even had an old air sickness bag someone gave me in Istanbul.
Anyway......I tried to sell the stuff but, quelle suprise, no takers; so I got out my cutting board and scalpel and started to collage together some bits and pieces.
I'm more of a Photoshop person so it was great fun doing it old skool, getting messy with glue etc.
It whiled away a couple of hours on Saturday morning whilst I waited for publicity shy X to come back form the opticians with swell new glasses.
Here are my efforts.

45 today and I thought it was time to dabble with this blogging thing.
Did not too badly on the present getting. The boyfriend, he's publicity shy and has decided to be called X for the purposes of this blog, bought me a Dr Who TARDIS money box and a toy sonic screwdriver. Brilliant!
According to the instruction the TARDIS plays a recording of The Doctor and Rose when you deposit a coin in the slot. It also plays the wooshing dematerialisation sound. Unfortunately to appreciate thrill of it all the TARDIS requires 3 AAA batteries which, in time honoured fashion, were not included.
If you're wondering what I'm wittering on about then check out Dr Who here.
Moving on. A note to the chap on the No29 bus going into Edinburgh at about 2.15pm today. Yes, you know who you are. Next time you want to listen to the techno music on your mobile try using earphones instead of broadcasting to the whole bus through your phone speaker. Thanks.
